Disasters can do one of two things to a person...make them bitter or make them strong. Over the past few days since the destruction of Hurricane Ike, I have seen that Texans are choosing a higher road:
1. There are no complaints about what the government is not doing, but rather an appreciation for the basic necessities of life they are providing.
2. There is a sense of pride, one that we the citizens will rebuild, we will survive, and we will not let this bring us down.
3. There is brotherly love and kind acts of service as people help their neighbors with the long tasks of cleaning up.
4. But even greater still is the hope that tomorrow will bring another day and that "material things" are not as important as the family and friends that they love.
Yes, Texans may have pride, but more than that they have class.

Even dad said that Governor Perry has this state so organized for an emergency. And you are right about the people in Texas. They have hearts as big as the state.

The day after the storm, kyle and I drove through his neighborhood. There were people cleaning their yards. Not cutting trees off houses, just cleaning their yards. Texans want to get back to normal as quickly as possible. As we pulled into mom and dad's neighborhood, three of the guys (different parts of the neighborhood) were using a truck to pull a pine tree out of someone's yard. There is not much complaining here, and anyone who does is ridiculed. I love it. Pick your self up and get back to work.
